Why is CIDB Grade 1 Essential?

Under the Construction Industry Development Board Act 38 of 2000, no contractor may perform construction or infrastructure work for organs of state without being listed on the CIDB Register of Contractors.

CIDB Grade 1 is the statutory entry-level grade for emerging contractors, permitting businesses to bid on public contracts with values up to R1 Million (R1,000,000) in accordance with Gazetted CIDB tender limits.

Classes of Construction Works Available

GB (General Building): Housing, commercial building construction, renovations.

CE (Civil Engineering): Roads, storm water, bridges, earthworks, water supply.

ME (Mechanical Engineering): HVAC, industrial piping, boiler installations.

EP / EB (Electrical Engineering): Building electrical, transmission lines, cabling.
